Which End Is Up?

KALININGRAD, RUSSIA - SEPTEMBER 28: Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov (L) and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Nikolai Makarov (2R) look on as President Dmitry Medvedev (C) hold a machine gun while inspecting weapons and military equipment at the Baltic Fleet's Khmelyovka training center near Baltiysk on September 28, 2009 in the Kaliningrad Region, Russia. Dmitry Medvedev arrived in the Kaliningrad Region to attend Zapad-2009 (West-2009) military exercises. The exercises are being conducted with a combined force of Russian and Belarusian troops. It’s hard to trust we’ve really got a “new partner” in applying Iran sanctions when such goofiness only reinforces who’s really running the show. The image is part of a package of “trying hard” pics on the wire today from Medvedev’s photo op at one of Russia’s Baltic fleet weapons and military equipment centers near Kaliningrad.

Also notice, by the way, how the Russian photo-op offers up images (1, 2) that are surprisingly reminiscent of scenes of the allied landing, during WWII, at Omaha Beach.
