Blind Faith

Blinded soldier British flag

Photo: Peter Byrne/A.P.
Caption: Simon Brown, 31, who was blinded by sniper fire whilst serving in Basra, Iraq, in 2006, wears a Union flag in his left eye socket during a visit by Britain’s Prince William to St Dunstan’s, a specialist centre for blind ex-Servicemen and women, in Llandudno, North Wales, Monday Feb. 22, 2010.

I was interested in this shot of Simon Brown who, according to the AP caption, was blinded by sniper fire while serving in Basra, Iraq, in 2006.

It seems to me Simon was blinded earlier than that, though, entrusting his welfare to the British state in the name of a threat that was, and ultimately proved, invisible.
