9/11 Did Not Discriminate … So Why Must We?

After a lead-up week of near-total lunacy, I was grateful to see this story in the NYT. For once, because it’s the anniversary of 9/11 today and because portraits and expressions like this second is still immediate and reminiscent of the days and weeks following the attack, I’ll let the photos speak for themselves … except to point out what you would think would be obvious — that there were Muslims, too, for whom 9/11 was shattering.

The back story.

(Caption 1: Hadidjatou Karamoko Traoré, a 9/11 widow, with her sons, Siaka, left, 9, and Souleymane, 11. Caption 2: Abdoul-Karim Traoré was one of about 60 Muslims believed to have died on 9/11. He was photographed with his sons Souleymane and Siaka.)
