I just found this photo in MSBNC’s “Year in Pictures” section, leading off the sports gallery. Considering that the setting involves America’s pastime, the photo is not just a home run for motherhood, but an all-too-rare visual example of a woman extending herself beyond gender and social stereotypes.
Now, I’m not sure, if Tiffany and her husband were in opposite places, the caption would say that Allen robbed Tiffany of a foul ball. But then, the echo of gender bias is never that far away. Still, let the little girls and the little boys register this one, as shots like this don’t come around very often.
