Having Committed to Peace with Iran…

In this Friday, Jan. 15, 2016 photo, an Iranian skiers are reflected in the goggles of a skier at Dizin Ski Resort some 72 kilometers (45 miles) north of the capital Tehran, Iran. Every weekend, the resort in the Alborz mountain range, north of Tehran, draws hundreds of skiers from the capital and other towns. (AP Photo/Ebrahim Noroozi)

Funny how, getting past the nuke deal and the lifting of sanctions on Iran, this shows up in the news galleries. After a steady visual diet of mullahs and burkas, the instinct here, I assume, is to now see the country and its values as more a reflection of our own. (And to recognize, without comment or qualification, how contemporary the culture was the whole time.)

…Which, in terms of the media portrayal, means: bring on the scenes of the rich and the beautiful reaping the economic spoils.
