Photoville ’16 Salon: The Presidential Campaign Through New Eyes

With all the disaffection and “unconventionality” surrounding Election ’16, many media organizations have been working with photographers who are either newer to the campaign trail or have taken a more unusual visual approach. Given the campaign atmosphere, Instagram has also been a key venue for this more interesting view.

If you’re anywhere nearby, join us on September 24th at Photoville, America’s largest and most unique photo festival. We will discuss two photos each taken by four acclaimed photographers who have been widely followed this campaign season. The panelists and the full set of photos we’ll be discussing are just below.

Our panel includes:

Mark Abramson – freelance photographer, visual journalist M. Scott Brauer – freelance photographer Landon Nordeman – documentary photographer Hilary Swift – freelance photographer Lorie Novak – artist and Professor of Photography & Imaging, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and Michael Shaw (moderator) – publisher, Reading the Pictures

PHOTOVILLE, on the Brooklyn Waterfront, is built from repurposed shipping containers, combining photo exhibitions, outdoor photo installations, talks, workshops, and nighttime multimedia events in the Beer Garden in Brooklyn Bridge Park. It runs from September 21-25, 2016 and is FREE for everyone to attend and enjoy!

When:
Saturday, September 24 | 6:00PM – 6:45PM

Where:
Storefront at 60 Water Street, Brooklyn, NY. (That’s Water Street in Brooklyn, not Manhattan.)

We hope you can join us!

This panel is part of the Reading the Pictures Salon series. The Reading the Pictures Salon brings together the eyes and voices of leading photojournalists, editors, visual academics and highly-informed observers to discuss and analyze the most vital and interesting news images of the day.

In this multiple exposure , Jeanette Rubio, wife of former Republican presidential hopeful and Senator from Florida Marco Rubio, hangs out and makes calls to voters in Rubio HQ in Miami , FL during the Florida primary Election Day. Later that evening Marco bowed out of the race the night Donald Trump swept the state, leaving many local supporters saddened. The night previous to the election Rubio stood in this playground with supporters and media and reminisced about how he and Jeanette met in that very same playground in their highly Cuban neighborhood in Miami when they were younger .
