Mooch and Other Dramas: Our Weekly Social Media Roundup

There was really no way to draw a rope around this week. While Trump and his posse ratcheted up the hysteria, it was nearly impossible to follow all the subplots.

Anthony Scaramucci’s showboating and belligerence in the boss’s name culminated in Mooch going postal on Wednesday night over Reince and leaks. Trump earned a demerit badge in politicizing the Boy Scout’s national jamboree. On Capitol Hill (anyone remember Monday?), Kushner did his stealthy best to keep his Senate Intel Committee interview on the down low. And how about “the phoenix?” After bailing out Trumpcare early in the week, the ailing John McCain came back to snuff out the GOP’s last ditch skinny bill.

Just off the main stage, signs of gender and racial equality, and international sovereignty, also faired badly. Trump did his best to distract from RussiaGate by delegitimizing transgender military service. Also in the mix, our article for the Columbia Journalism Review examined the media’s visual framing of the opioid crisis, including the kinder/gentler tone, the racial double standard, and how the healthcare battle has accentuated both. If you missed it, you can click through.
