About the Video

The program is broken into three segments. “The News,” “The Look,” and “The Pick.” In “The News,” we discuss a hard news image for how much information or story it contains. In “The Look,” we focus on a news photo that pushes the boundaries of artistry and style. And in “The Pick,” we ask what makes a high profile photo unique in the minds of editors or the public?

In “The News,” we’ll be looking at a hard news image for how much information or story it contains. In “The Look,” we’ll focus on a news photo that pushes the boundaries of artistry and style. And in “The Pick,” we’ll ask what makes a high profile photo unique in the minds of editors or the public?

“The News” shot this week was a Nike ad featuring Colin Kaepernick, well known for his protest of the national anthem which caused his unstated ban from the NFL.

For “The Look,” we discuss a photo by M. Scott Mahaskey taken for POLITICO. The photograph captures InfoWars’ Alex Jones yelling at Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, as they leave the Senate hearing on foreign electioneering on social media.

“The Pick” shows Fred Guttenberg, the father of Jamie Guttenberg who was killed in the shooting in Parkland, Fla. as he tried to shake hands with Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. Photo is by Andy Harnik for the Associated Press.
