The "Most Different" News Photos from the 9/11 Commemoration – #1: "Salam"

9 11 Memorial family members tenth anniversary

Because the caption is generic, I can’t tell if these two women — surrounding the south Trade Center reflecting pool with other family members — are mothers, daughters, wives or sisters of 9/11 victims.

What I can say is how novel it was, amidst the saturation of red-white-and-blue, and the presence of American soldiers, and of George Bush himself (whose inspiration, from the ruins of this site, was vengeance on Iraq and Islamic terrorism) to discover, in this one photo, among at least a thousand I looked at,  the ritual of Muslim prayer.

New York City and the nation are commemorating the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks which resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people after two hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and one crash landed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.)
